What Makes an Oil Change Important?
If you aren’t familiar with why your car even needs its oil changed in the first place, you’ve come to the right place. We want to educate our customers because we care, and if you know the importance, you are more likely to service your vehicle regularly and avoid disasters down the road (literally!).
Oil is a lubricant that serves several functions. The first one is keeping the parts in your hard-working engine lubricated and moving as they power your car. The second function is keeping your engine cool while it is running. Over time, all of this hard work in the engine builds grime and contaminates your oil. If you have ever seen clean oil, it will have a light-brown and transparent look. As it gets older, you might notice it starts looking dark and black. This is a direct result of all the grimy buildup created by your working engine. You can check your oil using the dipstick under the hood of your car and wiping it on a clean cloth or paper towel to see what color it is. In general, we suggest changing your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months in older vehicles, and 5,000-10,000 miles in new models. Your car’s oil change schedule may also vary on what you use the car for, what type of oil your car takes and what type of car you own.
Failure to keep a consistent oil and filter change schedule may result in wear and tear on the metal parts inside of your engine or possibly overheating inside of your engine, which is a much more costly ordeal than simply changing your oil. Trust us… get your oil changed!
